Our second guests of the evening will be Colleen Carpenter and Kate Shull from Action over Silence: End Veteran Suicide introducing the mission and services offered by this program.
Action Over Silence is a community-based initiative focused on preventing suicide among service members, veterans, and their families/caregivers in Allen County, Indiana. The organization works to ensure that no veteran or family member feels alone during a crisis by fostering peer support and community connections. Key services and efforts include:
Peer support and resource navigation to help veterans connect with social opportunities and needed services.
Training programs, such as how to help someone in crisis (SAVE), safe storage of lethal means (CALM), and military cultural competency.
Gun safety initiatives, including free gun locks, safe storage options, and partnerships with local shooting ranges.
Community collaboration with veteran-focused groups and providers to improve crisis response and lethal means safety.
