NAMI Fort Wayne is looking for persons interested in becoming support group facilitators for the Family Support Group and Peer Connection Recovery Support Group.
Who, what, where and when?
NAMI Connection groups are led by a team of facilitators who make mental health and wellness a priority in their daily lives. These leaders leaders offer encouragement and help the group gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others. They aim to guide participants, not to instruct or provide therapy.
NAMI Family Support facilitators are family members of individuals living with mental illnesses. They are able to share their stories with others who may be experiencing similar challenges. They empathize with and encourage family members who are journeying through the symptoms, setbacks and treatments that are a part of their loved-one’s illness. NAMI Family groups leaders play an important role in ensuring that all Family Support group participants feel welcomed and their voices heard.
Both Peer and Family Support leaders invite all participants to maintain the group guidelines, sustain clear participant boundaries, clarify goals, and reinforce communication skills that encourage group participation.
Training involves a weekend course led by our very own Angela and Steve McMahon (Family) and Linda Williams of NAMI Indiana (Peer). The exact dates will be scheduled once a group of interested trainees is found. We currently need a minimum of 1 additional Peer Support trainee and 2 additional Family Support trainees to hold these courses.
All training sessions will be held in Fort Wayne. Snacks, beverages and meals are provided!
Please contact the office or call 260-447-8990 to receive an application for training.
