Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) is partnering with the Fort Wayne affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Fort Wayne) for its 23nd annual Tour de Plants charity bike ride.

The SDI Tour de Plants charity ride is a 300-mile bicycle “tour” of SDI’s plants spanning the state of Indiana! This year’s tour began at the SDI Corporate Office on September 25th, passed through the Pittsboro Plant west of Indianapolis, and will finish at the Jeffersonville Plant in southern Indiana on September 27th. A combination of employees, vendors, suppliers and contractors make up the riding group each year.

Donations will allow NAMI volunteers to better assist those suffering from mental illness, as well as the family members of people with mental illness as well as to promote increased awareness around mental illness. Funding will help support NAMI Fort Wayne initiatives including:

Establish a NAMI in the Lobby program — train train and launch volunteers to staff hospital and mental health center waiting rooms, offering support and resources to families during times of crisis

Assemble new participant welcome kits — provide informational and supportive materials to individuals and families engaging with NAMI Fort Wayne for the first time

Purchase educational materials — equip class instructors and participants with high-quality reference materials for a deeper understanding of mental illness

Purchase a digital display monitor for education classes and the monthly speaker series — replace outdated AV equipment in Chad’s House Conference Room, where educational programming takes place

Provide Conference Scholarships — enable two NAMI Fort Wayne representatives to attend the National NAMI Conference in 2026 (Atlanta, GA)

Lead a Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) Mapping Project

NAMI Fort Wayne is grateful to have been chosen as this year’s charity partner!
