On the morning of March 21, I received a call from Erin Brady (English Department MA, National Honor Society, Cross-Country) from Bishop Dwenger High School. She and the students in the National Honor Society had collected socks for donation to local service organizations.
Through an internet search, Mrs. Brady learned of the Allen County System of Care Our Children Our Future’s sock and underwear drive in which NAMI Fort Wayne is partnering. This led her to call the (NAMI Fort Wayne) office, and I gladly took the opportunity to pay a visit to the school and receive the donation.
The students, representatives Joseph and Avery, and Mrs. Brady had three large bags filled with various pairs of socks ready to give to NAMI Fort Wayne! I was so encouraged and uplifted by our interaction, their positive attitudes, and by their thoughtful donation.
These items will be passed on to the community through the 7th Annual Resource Fair and Family Fun Night. The event will be held May 18, 2023, at the Lutheran Park and Gardens at 3024 Fairfield Avenue in Fort Wayne. This will be “an opportunity for service providers and families to learn about resources in the community.” The community is invited to “join for [a] Pinwheel event, fun, food, and freebies!”
Sincere thanks from NAMI Fort Wayne to the students of the National Honor Society and Erin Brady at Bishop Dwenger for their donation, energy, and time during their busy day!
